The Best Christmas Pageant Ever (2024) - Rated 15 Oct 2026
It's a wholesome enough message about kindness and acceptance, but its execution feels overly simplistic. The contrast between the unruly Herdman children and the traditional church community creates some amusing moments, though much of the humor feels exaggerated and predictable. The film’s emotional beats are easy to anticipate, and the character development rarely goes beyond familiar holiday-movie lessons. The sentimental tone and formulaic storytelling make it a forgettable Christmas movie.

The Godfather (1972) - Rated 14 Oct 2026
One of the all-time greats just doesn't seem to hold up to modern standards. There's still a lot to love. The tension-filled moments, the gripping dialogue, and, of course, Michael's satisfying character arc. Unfortunately, all of that doesn't do nearly enough to make up for the flaws. The movie is horribly paced, being too slow in some moments and too quick in others. The action and special effects don't hold up. There are even some major characters that are of no interest.

The Hollars (2016) - Rated 09 Oct 2026
What a mess. From the subplots that don't lead anywhere to the odd character motivations at times, this movie doesn't have a lot going for it. It could never decide if it wanted to be a feel-good movie or a comedy, or a mix of both, which tanks the overall tone of the film. Richard Jenkins' emotional acting and John Krasinski's serious acting in this one make it quite clear why they both should stick to strictly comedy. There are some good moments, but they're surrounded by way too much mess.

Sully (2016) - Rated 08 Oct 2026
The non-linear storytelling did more to take away from the story than to add to it. Especially for a movie about an event that most people already know about. It's also packed with dialogue, which, when it works, is welcome, but it has too many flat moments. Of course, you can't discredit Sullenberger's story. He is one of America's hidden heroes, and the movie does a proper job of representing him as such.

Spotlight (2015) - Rated 07 Oct 2026
The epilogue alone is all you need to see to feel the power of this story. To have such a grounded story be so enticing from beginning to end is hard, but the great acting of the group of four at Spotlight keeps the audience engaged. The passion that they all show is exactly how good journalism is done. All of the subplots about how they were able to piece together the story, and all the moments of horror when they found out more, are simply brilliant.

Lanterns (2026) - Rated 05 Oct 2026
If this weren't a Green Lanterns show, it would probably be much better. The whole mystery-and-crime-drama feel isn't exactly what fans associate with Lanterns. Still, it manages to handle what it is quite well, with most of the mystery portions of the show keeping the audience on the edge of their seats. There's barely any action, but the relationship between John Stewart and Hal Jordan makes up for that and then some. Overall, it's pretty good, just left a lot on the table.

American Sniper (2014) - Rated 02 Oct 2026
A tragic look into the life of what a soldier deals with both on the battlefield and back home. The entire movie is intense, emotional, and makes even those who haven't served understand the sacrifice that these men go through. Bradley Cooper is the perfect choice for the role of Chris Kyle. His acting goes a long way in making Kyle's experiences feel so real. The ending leaves the audience stunned, but satisfied knowing that Kyle wouldn't have changed anything about how it ended.

The Founder (2016) - Rated 02 Oct 2026
It's an easily digestible biographical drama about a company that is one of the most recognizable in the world. The progression of Ray Kroc as a businessman creates some easy-to-see morals in the terms of greed. The only issue is that there aren't a lot of potatoes to go with the meat of the story. There simply isn't a whole lot of interest outside the basic story of an entrepreneur putting money before everything else in their life, which has been shown hundreds of times in media.

Dune: Part Two (2024) - Rated 01 Oct 2026
While most of the movie is dialogue and exposition-heavy, much like the first installment, the third act gives this film its best moments. Watching Paul go from rejecting the prophecy to fully embracing being the Messiah creates so many more levels of emotional complexity. Most notably, in his relationship with Chani, who, despite all the signs of Paul being the Lisan Al-Gaib, stays true to herself and maintains her view that it's all propaganda.

Stuart Fails to Save the Universe (2026) - Rated 01 Oct 2026
The run of the great Big Bang Theory spin-offs has come to an unfortunate end. The premise by itself should've been enough to shut down the production of the show. It doesn't make sense within the context of the original series; it stars four characters that no one cares about, and it's littered with cameos to make the audience forget how bad the actual show is. Even the acting of those aforementioned four star characters makes each one of them seem like they don't want to be there.
