The film's powerhouse narrative remains gripping throughout, the directing is restrained and elegant, and the acting is incredible; obviously Brando is iconic as the Don, but Pacino delivers one of his greatest and most nuanced performances, and Keaton, Caan, and Duvall are fantastic in supporting roles. A classic film through and through.

It has almost become cliche to say this movie is perfect, but it is, and I'm saying it again. It's really hard to argue against someone when they say that this is the best film of all time. It's so good. The writing, acting, directing, everything is amazing. I believe in America.

A flawless character study, supported by an airtight script, virtuoso direction, picture-perfect cinematography and perhaps the best collective acting job in the history of cinema; an exemplar of everything that makes film great in its purest form. The emotional pull of the movie is every bit as strong as it was nearly 40 years ago, because every aspect of it is timeless; Al Pacino's subtle, shifting transformation from civilian to mafia don will never lose its power.

Coppola created an atmosphere like none other in this film. It is very dark, and yet very classy and sophisticated. It is powerful in its presentation and has some of the greatest performances in film. Everything seemed so real. The Godfather created a number of memorable characters portrayed by some of the greatest American actors of our time, including the great Marlon Brando who turns in a well deserved oscar winning performance. The Godfather is nothing short of a masterpiece.

Brando's performance as the mighty and god-like Vito Corleone is legendary and the peak highlight of acting during 20th century cinema. He elevates this film from great to historic. No doubt a classic in every sense "The Godfather", inspired by Mario Puzo's epic novel, is hard to fault in any way. Coppola's flawless vision created something far beyond its own scope; and with chilling performances from Pacino, Duvall and Caan, the film is simply a masterpiece. No review will ever do it justice.

Engrossing motion picture that features some of the finest editing, cinematography and performances ever. There is a wonderful theme of family that runs through this film and its later sequels. No one is truly judged. Love is unconditional. God is the one who truly judges. Easily, the word masterpiece describes this film, but that's been said by so many...Who am I to argue? Masterpiece is right on the money.

An appropriately legendary film, its enduring influence constantly evident not only in subsequent cinema, but all areas of pop culture. It transcends the milieu of gangster film, becoming a melodrama of familial loyalty and an epic parable of the capitalist American Dream. The plotting is dense, thick with characters of nuanced motivation, all played to pitch perfection. Its golden glow, the looming score, and the authenticity of its ethnic indulgences make it an elegant and visionary picture.

Terrific movie, beautifully filmed, driven by excellent performances and a strong narrative. There are some glorious set piece scenes dotted throughout the film. If I had a minor gripe, it is that the film seems to focus on a slighty romanticised version of the Mafia (this is present in Puzo's writing), which doesn't sit comfortably in comparison to grittier realisations on film/TV. Nonetheless, the film succeeds on pretty much every level, and is recommended viewing for all humans.

Excruciatingly boring. Marlon Brando is good as the head of the family, but he is the only reason you should see this film. Most troublesome is the movie's blatant glorification of the gangster way of life. For sad white men raised by women, the kind who'd later go on and learn Pulp Fiction by heart.

This movie presents a beautiful paradox that all good cinema is based on; it's so rich in character development, and its veins flow of intimacy and mesmorising attention to detail, but at the same time it remains in a zone of perfect emotional detachment. The transitional piano sequence after the restaurant assassination, as the headlines read violence - It depicts the mafia members partaking in the menial gestures of life; taking off your shoes for bed, passing the pasta, writing a letter, praying, sharing a laugh. Yet as the music plays, (FFC's father) it is accompanied by a deep, sinister undertone. That is the mafia - a lifestyle masquerading normalcy, while discretely keeping hours of brutality, and underhanded menace. Champion filmmaking.

A great movie that stands the test of time. Though a few moments feel dated, the power of the storytelling remains. There's something about the Godfather films that I don't like, that I NEVER liked, but it's inexplicable to the point of irrationality. I just can't find any faults, no matter how hard I try (not really that hard, I mean, who has so much free time that they repeatedly watch 3 hour movies they can't stand?). The only part of this film (literally the only part) that was shoddy was the beating of Carlo in the streets by Santino. That's about it, and everything else was darn near flawless. Some of it seems cliche (I'll make him an offer he can't refuse, sleep with the fishes, etc.), but that's only because it's been parodied and referenced countless times by now. Deserving of every bit of praise it has received over the years. Even if you don't like mafia movies, you'll probably enjoy this anyway.

It is hard to criticise this film as it IS a superb bit of cinema. The acting of Pacino & Brando, and many of the supporting cast is simply breathtaking (although Talia Shire is abyssmal as Connie) but there are many inconsistencies: Pacino's bruise took years to heal, but Connies husband was miraculously healed from a real kicking in days! whilst I love "slow build" and careful pacing in films, this was (perfectly) slow to begin, but then rushed, time contracted and crammed towards the climax

Mostly gripping but very flawed and overblown. Francis Ford Coppola flat out refuses to trim the fat around the good bits and as a result for every minute that advances the plot we get twelve that are mind-numbingly boring and of no consequence. The worst offender is the insultingly pointless Sicily sequence. The movie captures the feel and look of the period fantastically but there just isn't enough substance for it to be called great, especially considering its length.
