John Krasinski, as actor and director, tackles the most clichéd genre in the movie business -- the dysfunctional family dramedy. The big difference is he pulls it off with uncommon humor and compassion.

This film really carried itself well through out thanks to an incredible script by James Strouse. It had all the character development in all the right places and each actor really played their part with such tremendous range. It was a gripping and emotional story that lead to the right moment to end. This film had a particular story to tell and at the end there was so much more left open to tell but it really captured the true essense of how quickly emotions can go from one extreme to another

A sweet movie to watch on an afternoon. The characters all made some sense to follow. Glad to see Margo Martindale show off her acting chops and really added warmth to the family. Charlie Day was a bit too much. MEW made the most of her scenes. Fav scene: Krasinski shaving Martindale's head.

The character are likeable and relatable, it's a sweet movie, with a light touch and a "common folk" look on the bittersweet taste of life. John Krasinski looks like it's showing what has learned from The Office, here. Competent effort, but not enough for me.

The cinematic equivalent of unseasoned porridge; really bland.

Middle of the road family dramedy. If you have watched any decent amount of movies this should feel incredibly familiar, but the cast is likable and does a decent job.

Very on the nose and very good. Especially Anna Kendrick.

That's not to suggest that this earnest dramedy won't have its detractors. Some cynics might balk at the pic's sentimental denouement. And this movie's unfortunate profanity--especially those misuses of Jesus' name--may drive it out of bounds for family-focused viewers who would likely appreciate its significant, positive themes the most. Good deal better than the critics suggest.
