60 49% Oculus (2014) - Rated 16 May 2014
"Overall Enjoyment: 30/40, Plot/Themes: 10/20, Cinematography/Direction: 10/20, Acting/Writing: 10/20 Solid but ultimately forgettable horror movie. weak ending."
40 22% Elysium (2013) - Rated 11 Nov 2013
"Overall Enjoyment: 10/40, Plot/Themes: 10/20, Cinematography/Direction: 15/20, Acting/Writing: 5/20 High expectations lead to low scores when heavily disappointed. This is a standard run of the mill boring action movie with uninspired writing and actors who looked like they would rather be asleep. This is a shame coming from District 9, which covered the same ground in a far more interesting way."
85 87% The Counselor (2013) - Rated 11 Nov 2013
"Overall Enjoyment: 30/40, Plot/Themes: 20/20, Cinematography/Direction: 20/20, Acting/Writing: 15/20 Dark, bleak, nihilistic. McCarthy to its core. Some confusing narrative choices and some of the actors struggle with McCarthy's dialogue, but otherwise an excellent movie with a strong clear message."
75 72% You're Next (2013) - Rated 11 Nov 2013
"Overall Enjoyment: 35/40, Plot/Themes: 10/20, Cinematography/Direction: 10/20, Acting/Writing: 10/20 Fun horror-comedy that stays entertaining from start to finish."
65 57% Le nom des gens (2010) - Rated 07 Sep 2013
"Overall Enjoyment: 25/40, Plot/Themes: 15/20, Cinematography/Direction: 10/20, Acting/Writing: 15/20. Fun comedy with some darker movies interspersed. Nothing too deep, but it's a light fun watch."
50 34% Warm Bodies (2013) - Rated 26 Jun 2013
"Overall Enjoyment: 20/40, Plot/Themes: 10/20, Cinematography/Direction: 10/20, Acting/Writing: 10/20 A cute movie that was much better than I thought it would be, but never really elicited more than a small chuckle, and was ultimately forgettable in every way."
70 64% Man of Steel (2013) - Rated 26 Jun 2013
"Overall Enjoyment: 30/40, Plot/Themes: 15/20, Cinematography/Direction: 15/20, Acting/Writing: 10/20 I look at the number to my right, and I feel like it should be higher. If the middle act of this movie had been cut out, it might have been. The engaging beginning and jaw dropping action spectacle of the final act, were sadly dragged down by a meandering poorly edited middle piece that just went on way too long. It should not be understated how fun the action was, once it actually started."
75 72% The Great Gatsby (2013) - Rated 26 Jun 2013
"Overall Enjoyment: 30/40, Plot/Themes: 15/20, Cinematography/Direction: 15/20, Acting/Writing: 15/20 The casting person should win an award for this, because everyone nailed their role. The effective use of modern music and over-the-top-party scenes drove home how the roaring 20's were supposed to feel to someone in their youth at the time. The symbolism from the book was spoon fed to the audience, leaving no room for subtly, but I'd rather people get force fed than not get it at all."
40 22% World War Z (2013) - Rated 26 Jun 2013
"Overall Enjoyment: 15/40, Plot/Themes: 5/20, Cinematography/Direction: 10/20, Acting/Writing: 10/20 The is a disaster/end of the world genre movie, but the ominous event just happened to be zombies. This is actually a neat concept, and one of biggest strengths of the movie was showing zombies as unstoppable hordes of kinetic energy akin to a flood. Sadly, that's about the only neat thing as almost everything else in the film was uninspired and boring. Wasn't worth the 12 dollars."
60 49% I Saw the Devil (2010) - Rated 18 May 2013
"Overall Enjoyment: 20/40, Plot/Themes: 15/20, Cinematography/Direction: 10/20, Acting/Writing: 15/20 South Korean revenge thriller. These revenge films from South Korea, are all starting to feel pretty samey. Even though the sub-genre is pretty new, there seems to very little innovation, and it's getting old fast. That said if you have never seen a film like this before, this has solid acting/pacing, and is about as good as any of the other famous entries in the genre."
