83 64% Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens (2015) - Rated 03 Jan 2016
"J.J. Abrams' loving sequel to the legendary Star Wars brings the franchise back on track, after its destruction by the prequel saga. The movie captures the spirit of the original Star Wars in being a family film about adventure. The new characters, particularly the lead, are very likable, and the returning characters are implemented tastefully. The one minor flaw is that it might be a bit too similar to the first film. Still, it's a very fun movie with wit, good writing and real special effects."
18 4% Halloween: Resurrection (2002) - Rated 29 Oct 2015
"H20 restored a bit of dignity to Halloween. But then, one sequel later, it falls right back down to the bottom of the barrel. In its desperate attempt to continue the series, Resurrection retcons and utterly destroys H20's likable ending. It then follows a cast of new characters, all of which are bad. The movie's story about a reality show in the Myers' house is laughably bad, and as a whole, it's full of holes. Finally, the ending does a great job representing just how far Halloween has fallen."
49 17% Halloween H20: Twenty Years Later (1998) - Rated 29 Oct 2015
"After Halloween degenerated, culminating with The Curse of Michael Myers which marked the death of the series, the only way to salvage any of it was to cut some of the fat. H20 ignore every sequel after II, which helps it quite a bit. Jamie Lee Curtis returns for this film and does a good job carrying it. Still, for the most part, the movie is dull and cliche, but what's enjoyable about it is the final act. It's actually pretty satisfying and could have served as a serviceable end to the series."
20 5% Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers (1995) - Rated 28 Oct 2015
"There is an old saying: less is more. That applies well to the Halloween series. Michael Myers was terrifying when we knew nothing about him. But the sequels showed us more of him, lessening his impact. With this movie, he is given a complete and atrocious backstory, which ruins the film. As if that weren't enough, the film dealt with problems in production, and it shows in the final product. The Curse of Michael Myers is a mess of disjointed scenes, terrible story, and no suspense or atmosphere"
30 7% Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers (1989) - Rated 28 Oct 2015
"Halloween 4 marked the beginning of the end for the series. But this quick cash-in, Halloween 5, escalated that to a new level. One of 4's only redeeming parts, its dark cliffhanger, was simply brushed off here. Instead, we got another soulless rehash. It's devoid of suspense, and instead we're "treated" to empty jump scares. The new characters are horrible, including the teenage lead. There are some decent moments, and the returning characters are likable, but overall, Halloween 5 is simply bad"
74 45% Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015) - Rated 29 May 2015
"Avengers: Age of Ultron feels a little bogged down when compared to its predecessor, which didn't need to use anything more than a basic plot. This sequel tries to tell a more structured story, which works in its favor in a few ways, but in others, it's a bit less engaging and comes up short. The action sequences aren't as bombastic as they were in the first movie but are enjoyable enough. Thankfully, what hasn't faltered is the cast. Big mention goes to Ultron, who is a very enjoyable villain."
99 96% Lawrence of Arabia (1962) - Rated 21 Apr 2015
"Quite possible the greatest epic of the century. Lawrence of Arabia is massive in scope, perfectly capturing the size of the desert. It it based on the life of T.E. Lawrence, played very well by Peter O'Toole. The casting in this movie as a whole is nearly perfect."
50 19% The Matrix Revolutions (2003) - Rated 21 Apr 2015
"While far from impressive, The Matrix Revlutions at least serves as a fairly satisfying end to the story. It's not nearly as thoughtful as the original, but it gives conclusion to the characters well enough."
40 10% The Matrix Reloaded (2003) - Rated 21 Apr 2015
"Well... things happened. That's a good way to sum up The Matrix Reloaded. The execution of the plot feels more like a "To Do" list, with the characters just darting around from one place to another doing things. It does put a bit more focus on the action, but not in a good way. The slow motion starts to feel a bit tired and the fights drag."
87 74% The Matrix (1999) - Rated 21 Apr 2015
"When you hear "The Matrix", what do you think of? The strange science fiction elements? The action? The philosophical elements? These are all things that The Matrix built itself on, cementing itself in film history and serving as a reference point for many films since. It balances all of these ideas, using them to strengthen the movie's storytelling and characterization."
