As Douglas Adams wrote, “It’s not easy being a cop”, and here it’s doubled by grief, with the message being something like that it’s the difficulty itself, together with the bonds formed with one’s colleagues, and especially one’s partner (in the cop sense), that makes it possible to do the work of mourning. Nothing new there, but this is better than most examples of this kind of thing, generating tension and making good use of stars who have a thirty-year history of working together. It goes without saying that the assertion made at the beginning of this movie, claiming that it is inspired by true events, is something that should be interpreted as implying the loosest possible connection to any kind of reality.
