The second in my “Last Gasp of the 90s Movie Star” awards season marathon is the most flat-out enjoyable – don’t look for anything of great substance here, and the film may leave you craving the more interesting rivalries from FORD V FERRARI, but this does prove that Pitt is still arguably the last movie star standing, who can still effortlessly command and compel an audience to follow him anywhere, even through the hoops of what amounts to the reliable crowd pleaser of a racing movie. Nice support work from Bardem and Condon help, even in the paper thin characters they are handed, and Kosinski proves subtly masterful at both executing some nerve jangling racing scenes, as well as keeping Pitt’s rather bizarre competitive strategies clear and concise.
