I've grown tired of films that A: Use non-sensical ways to dumb down the movie to Americans because the studios believe they're idiots (the announcers spoon-feeding the info was a poor choice and should have focused on JP's mom instead); B: Cast women in men's arenas to show that women are technically minded (vast majority are not) and so that men not only bring their sons because it's a mens sport but their woman too (read: more profit...Kosinski did the same thing with his Maverick as Jennifer Connelly's character was a senseless addition); and C: Villains, that if you were to remove them from the film, would not make a difference to the story nor would they be missed (the same thing happened in Bohemian Rhapsody, with a jilted-lover Villain). Hollywood has done it again with dumbing it down to increase profits. Pitt's character does it for the love of the race, which I believe played off well enough.
Mini Review: I've grown tired of films that A: Use non-sensical ways to dumb down the movie because the studios believe the audience are idiots; B: Villains, that if you were to remove them from the film, would make no difference to the story nor would they be missed (the same thing happened in Bohemian Rhapsody, with a jilted-lover of Freddie); and C: Provide romance so that men will bring their women (read: bigger profit). Should be marketed as, "It's Fast! It's Fun! It's Brad! It's.....FU: The Cliché!"
