After the second watch I think I can comment on this without any bias. The movie on its own and not considering the source material, is very entertaining. The story telling is beautiful. The back and forths and ultimately all of it coming together. It’s very Nolan. In terms of scale and the journey, it’s almost up there with the likes of the lord of the rings. However, there are major flaws in this movie. The whole IMAX thing was just a marketing gimmick that didn’t work in favour of the movie itself. The sound design is terrible. I couldn’t hear the dialogue at all. The cast was not good as well. Tom holland was not fit for his role. He was emotionless. We don’t get anything out of the crew. No actors on that ship and no dialogue between them. Might as well had extras playing them. Finally, the most important flaw of this movie is the depth of the story. It touched on Odysseus’s regret and shame in confession form but the severity of the Trojan war and the brutality of it isn’t shown. Why is the head of the statue cut at the end of the battle? Athena needed to fall so that Troy would fall. Overall, a great movie, timeless, and certainly a big scale movie that only Nolan could made right.
