Drew Hancock came out swinging with his feature film debut as both writer and director. Companion is original, funny, dark, and just unpredictable enough to keep the audience guessing. The screenplay takes familiar science-fiction ideas and twists them into something that feels fresh, balancing sharp humor with increasingly uncomfortable and suspenseful situations.

Sophie Thatcher and Jack Quaid are perfectly cast. Thatcher does an excellent job navigating the film's shifting tone, while Quaid once again proves how effective he can be playing charming characters with something unsettling beneath the surface. Their chemistry is essential to making the story work, and both deliver exactly what the film needs.

The pacing is strong, the dialogue is clever, and the concept gives the movie plenty to explore without becoming overly complicated. Companion was one of the most entertaining and original genre films of the year.
