So much camp. Very good.
Since Cregger produced this, I had to make sure I got this in before I catch Weapons on Thursday. Glad even though I had the general crux of the thing (Iris’ whole nature) spoiled by the marketing (wish they could’ve just stuck with the teaser trailer) there were still surprises to spare. Maybe the political ramifications of humanizing certain technologies and tying them to feminist ideals is a little dodgy in this day and age, but I think it will age well overall.
Sophie Thatcher is excellent and the rest of the cast isn’t far behind her. Lots of fun gore and thrills tied together with the interesting commentary on the way humans use technology and even more evidence Jack Quaid is one of the best cases for nepotism.
Did it need the Gone Girl bookends? I’m not sure but if that’s its worst sin? It’s not Shakespeare, but it’s fun.
