A Warning to the Curious

Probably the best of the BBC's '70s ghost stories, A Warning to the Curious takes what could have been a rather dry premise (archaeologist searching for a crown on a beach) and gives it a rather creepy, dramatic twist, conveying a sense of mystery and impending doom that rivals any modern ghost story you'd care to name.

This isn't the best or the scariest of the BBC Christmas ghost stories, but it's a solid addition to one of the best ever TV-movie series.

A cool little concept for a film, and it has the eerie atmosphere down flat, but 50 minutes is a bit too long for what it does.

Not quite as good as "Whistle and I'll Come to You", but a solid entry none the less

Very atmospheric, and very British. Memorable.

Probably the best of the "Ghost stories for Christmas" stories. All areas work together: actors (especially Vaughan as the lead), location cinematography, editing and sound design & score which are integral in setting the eerie mood. And of course the story, that keeps you intrigued during the whole duration. There are some shots that still made my skin crawl; like the figures exposed by the flashlight. My only gripe is that it all feels perhaps a bit too polished, and lacks bigger surprises.

God, I really love these lonely ghost stories. There's a strange mix of comfort and terror in them that appeals to me and this one gets it quite right.
