Leans heavily on Carroll's dialogue and poetry, as though its merit is self-evident enough to merely be recited in a dry, stagey film. Back cover of this DVD talks a big game about "satirizing the middle class"; I'd defer to someone actually knowledgeable about the English class system, but I was baffled throughout, except in the broadest possible sense we see adults blind to their own childlike behaviors. Interesting choice of soundtrack composer in Ravi Shankar.

While true to the book's questioning of reality and fantasy; the political message is for the most part, lost. In turn, by using non-costumed actors the metaphorical messages are lost; and what little does come through is exchanged for blatant anti-governmental, anti-imperial displays with little umph and much pomp, but no boom!
