Black-ish

A black sitcom for white audiences.

Una sit-com non banale e con molti spunti di critica sociale, ma che a ben guardare è più conservatrice e buonista di quanto sembri a prima vista. Ogni tanto un po' ripetitiva nelle meccaniche, ma è rimasta sempre piacevole da guardare. L' ultima stagione è fin troppo conclusiva, è un grande saluto al pubblico e non aggiunge nulla di nuovo a quanto detto nei sette anni precedenti.

I'm in the middle of Season 1. So far so good.

A funny first season marred by a show that gets progressively more preachy. Each episode seems to be a PSA strung together by lazy jokes. Jenifer Lewis (the grandmother) would be a racist caricature if she was in any other show. It still has its moments but they get fewer each episode.

It has that usual ABC family sitcom factory smell to a lot of its comedy and dynamics (think Modern Family, The Middle, etc.), though it stays just enough on the side of amusing to be watchable. I'm not a regular viewer but don't mind it (or its well-meaning if clunky attempts at racial commentary/satire) when I do see an episode here and there. Seeing Laurence Fishburne in this and Hannibal at the same time was amusing.

Black-ish starts off incredibly funny and creative, filled with jokes, sketches and laugh out loud moments. Unfortunately around season 3, it drifts off into a political, preachy social commentary, served chewy and without any gravy. From a top-notch comedy to a history drama, the series almost completely loses its humor by the end of season 4. Somehow even Anthony Anderson looks overwhelmed with sadness... All the time.

It was funny to watch for a while... But eventually the overt racism against mixed races and the constant political propaganda became annoying. This is a sitcom jackass it's supposed to be funny!
