Carrie

From what I understand this remake is much closer to the King novel which would explain some of the changes It's not bad I just felt like Bettis' performances as Carrie using her telekinesis was WAY over the top

Underdeveloped characters and an over-reliance on mostly ineffective spectacle make for an unaffecting movie. Directing is dynamic but unfocused. Cinematography is too TV. Many of the actors can't act their parts convincingly. The most interesting this movie gets is when there are extended talky scenes between characters but those are few and far between and weirdly placed--it's not until a third of the way through the movie that the first such scene takes place.

Definitely has that TV movie feel but really isn't half bad. A few parts are actually more effective than the original film.

I'm sensing a pattern with the Carrie sequels/remakes: awful bullies and a movie that doesn't really get good until the last half hour. I nearly dropped this, but the characters grew on me, especially Angela Bettis, who might honestly be my favorite Carrie! Unfortunately, I still can't call this good. At 132 minutes, it's way too long, the pacing is atrocious, the CGI is eye-bleeding, and that ending does not fit at all. Still, like Carrie 2, I somehow enjoyed it by the end! - Full Review

Saw clips of it again out of context and it IS beautifully shot. Just poorly edited and, in some cases, acted and/or directed. The casting looks good, characterwise; not sure where it went wrong.

6.5-4-5-6 = 54/100 Angela Bettis is definitely creepier than Sissy Spacek. The charm was definitely gone with this one, especially Tommy, Sue, and Carrie. Chris was a boring rich bitch and Billy is a psycho, rather than John Travolta's goofy miscreant. Most characters were farther on the spectrum than the original, which took some of the enjoyment away. They expanded the ending, as well. This was fine, just not close to the original.

Waay better than I expected a 2002 tv remake of Carrie to be.

Surprisingly watchable for a TV movie, and the more actors & actresses you recognize the more fun it can be to watch, even though in the end it's mostly a tedious slog.

Decently made remake of a unique huge classic, which is always hard to accomplish. Being a TV movie keeps it from getting the proper oomph that it deserves.
