Crime Scene: The Times Square Killer

Goes to a lot of effort (probably too much since it becomes quite repetitive) to set the 1970s Times Square scene (it almost seems as if Travis Bickle's perception has become official historical memory), and to make earnest points about the treatment of sex workers, but it's quite clear that the filmmakers know what kind of "material" will butter their bread. If Robin Thicke can be forced to pay millions because of stylistic similarities, then Errol Morris should be the richest man in the world.

16 x 9 = death

Almost makes 1970's NYC feel like a sci-fi movie. Interesting and chilling to watch how society and his own mental state drove this man to commit horrible acts of violence and sadism. Sometimes the editing is a bit weird and lingers a little too long in some aspects while ignoring important ones being built up, but definitely a well made docuseries.

Another Berlinger crime doc, this time a three-parter on a prostitute-murdering serial killer from the '70s. Perfectly serviceable, with little to praise or criticise, but nothing special: the best part of it is the thick Noo Yoik accents on some of the talking heads of those who were there. Paints a picture of Times Square of the era as a gritty and grimy centre of depravity, but somehow makes me feel nostalgic for a place and period I never experienced.
