Tales of the City: New England! Edition. Everyone is amazing. The writing is brilliant. The scenery is perfect. It’s basically a 2 part feature length movie, which could be broken into small episodic chapters, if desired.

The opening credit music is fucking awful and almost made me shut it off right there. I made it a little further before I couldn't stand the narration, stilted dialogue, and terrible music and sound design. I couldn't even last long enough to see the incredible cast beyond Ed Harris. Maybe I'll give this another shot some time if I end up bedridden.

Just awful. One of those sprawling, slice-of-America tales made unwatchable by lousy screenwriting and inept directing (which completely crippled an interesting cast). People simply do not talk the way these characters do--most don't even act like they do (thank god). Ed Harris was good, although you don't care because his character is so flat. PSH fared the best of anyone. Even the wonderful Theresa Russell was miscast and failed to make much of an impression. Maudlin, heavy-handed crap.

A small movie, but well made. Ed Harris is good, and Newman has never been better.

Great film, most entertaining, especially the parts with Paul Newman.

Very disappointed. I had read the book, which I had found boring for the first 2/3rds and then really picked up and rewarded you in the final 1/3rd. Your reward here was the credits, in this 2-Disc boor-fest. And Paul Newman's character (who at least brought some humor) barely shows up in the 2nd Disc. Why do you have to break it up too with the announcement of each Chapter. A cast like this should have been able to bring a little more life. One positive note is that my mom liked it.
