Ah, yes, the American Frontier. Miscegenation, lesbianism, Yellow Journalism, Buffalo Soldiers, primitive accumulation of capital, Mormons, genocide of indigenous peoples, prostitution, industrialization. All alluded to, vaguely acknowledged, or paraded, and all fodder for contemporary bullshit, edgy, liberal entertainment that tells the truth about approximately 0% of it. Obviously a prestige television masterpiece.

Sadly a bit of a bore for me. A lot of charachters and storylines seemed redundant and the story feels dragged out and slow paced. The premise was promising but Frank should have left it as a movie instead of being talked into a miniseries as the characters aren't interesting enough to watch as a filler for most of the series. If you still think you should give this a try, read the synopsis and watch episode 1 and 7, you won't miss out on anything and you'll save yourself some time.

This here was what I reckon is a mighty fine duster. Mighty fine.

I quite enjoyed the 7 episode season 1. It was smart, raw, bloody and thoroughly interesting. The acting ranged from good to excellent. Engaging story. Jack O'Connell was charismatic. Merritt Wever was also a stand out, as was Jeff Daniels. There are many memorable moments. The big gun battle in the final episode was intense but also a bit confusing and convenient. The pacing was good, except for the retrospective looks into the past. I hope there will be a season 2, this one was fun to watch.

The clumsy flashbacks with awful and inconsistent color grading aside, this miniseries starts off really well with smart writing and high tier acting (Wever, O'Connor, Daniels, Dockery are all pretty much fantastic). A liberal and woke western fantasy probably, yes, but if it yields new interesting stories i'm ok with a new perspective. Unfortunately in the last 3 eps Godless kind of tanks: rushed story conclusions, predictable western cliches and other sins plague it

It started great but the second half felt as if they were suddenly in a rush to finish filming and tried to fix them during the editing. Particularly the big fight during the last episode... so much good setup was wasted. It's not what happened that was disappointing but how it happened. Would nevertheless recommend.

The first and last episode are great. The rest is oscillating between good and not so good.

one of the best westerns i've seen . . . it's top ten western for sure.

A dull, drawn-out misfire; has a talented cast at its disposal (with Wever especially good as unshakable frontierswoman) but never really convinces of its time and place - the set design and costumes look too new, and all of the characters speak (and behave) with a distractingly modern edge. A critique of gender and sexuality issues circa 1800s could have been fascinating, but not seen through the 'modern' lens utilised here. Some fine cinematography shines through.

No doubt, a quality western mini-series! Raw and haunting. Only dragged down by a few slow episodes. This was a story fit for 3-4 hours, but the 7 it was stretched out. Regardless a thrilling and violent trip in direction of a women's town and one of the most fulfilling western experiences of 2017!

This gritty western boasts a good cast of interesting characters with Jeff Daniels standing out proving his acting ability as the complex and terrifying villain.

A pretty god damned entertaining limited series. There are some slower moments where you think it is going to drag but it rights the ship fairly quickly in most cases. The cast is pretty superb for the most part, with Daniels, Thomas Brodie-Sangster , McNairy and O'Connell holding their own with the talented female cast.
