This LEGO Star Wars special tries to give a spooky twist to the galaxy with kid-friendly horror stories. The anthology format works at times, and while the humor sticks to LEGO's signature tone, not every tale manages to land. The idea of exploring the dark side through parody is fun, but the execution can feel flat or too predictable. Terrifying Tales is a fun spooky season style collection of stories told in the Star Wars universe. The video is chock full of fun gags for parents and kids alike. I enjoyed the reference to The Shining which was made only for the parents in the room. Even that reference is more enjoyable to Star Wars fans and that can be said about this whole special. It is made for fans. There are tons of deep-cut references that only die-hard fans will pick up on. Yet, it adds on good lore too. Check it out.

I was probable the one that enjoyed this the most of the family. My 6-year-old gave-up halfway and the others didn't say anything or seemed too interested in what was happening. This was fine, but the horror tales weren't exactly horror inducing.

Like most Lego Star Wars animated offerings, Terrifying Tales is mildly amusing and largely canon-ignoring as it pays homage to better works. Ultimately it's neither as original nor as sharp as when the schtick began with The Padawan Menace; nor is it as committed to building a tangential universe with material of its own.
