This one and done show had a lot of potential within the leads and the location in which it was set. It opted for dreary and dark instead of crafting a story first that allowed for those moods to become the heavy themes of the show. It seemed like it was designed to be dreary and the plot was then second. That's not great writing. The location is never what's key. It's the story unfolding within that location that delivers the catalyst to allow the background the chance to be noticed.

A good cast and interesting premise but man is this just a bleak boring shit show.

Should be great. Two great leads in Lennie James and Mark Strong, but the writing is weak and the direction is terrible. Also the B plot, which has very little to do with the A plot, is thoroughly uninteresting.

"Quality television" gone rotten; a bleak, towering testament to utter joylessness. I'm so irritated thinking about the TV producers who made this gray, soulless pile of misery, then stepped back looking at it and were like "Aw yeah, Emmy gold, here we come!" HEY, CABLE TV WRITERS: MISERY DOES NOT EQUAL QUALITY. Also annoying because I wanted Mark Strong to play Stannis in Game of Thrones, then he didn't, and I was like, "Guess he's too big for TV," then just one year later this crap shows up!
