Really good interpretation of the classic tragedy. Kate Fleetwood is clearly young enough to be Patrick Stewart's daughter, but they're both excellent in their roles. The Weird Sisters were apparently on loan from a J-horror movie.

A generally excellent adaptation, with possibly the best Shakespearean actor of our time in the lead role. The one great flaw is the director's occasional over-the-top flourishes; notably, whenever he goes to speak to the weird sisters, the style shifts to that of a bad horror movie from 2005.

Hey! Shakespeare on film that doesn't suck! The actors understand Shakespeare! The setting was pretty cool, they really ramped up the creepiness. That definitely worked for me, because the protohorror supernatural elements were what attracted me to Macbeth to begin with (until like a year or two ago, it was the only Shakespeare play I read that wasn't an English assignment). Anyway, Kate Fleetwood was great and I didn't give to my local PBS station because the 100 dollar pledge gift sucked.

I love Patrick Stewart and Macbeth is my favorite Shakespearean plan, but the interpretation of Shakespeare is ignorant, flashy and superficial. Medieval Scotland is improbably and unenlighteningly conflated with Soviet Russia.
