This show drove me insane. Made me straight up mad. It was so promising, could have been so good, but it went nowhere. I wanted to love it so much, but instead I waited season after season for the good stuff and it never came.

So annoying. This show is completely unwilling to let ANYTHING happen for fear of disrupting its tired monster of the week format. It's awful, worse even than the BBC Robin Hood show that came before it and seems to influence it structurally so much.

The story revolves around the friendship between Merlin and Arthur; beautifully and considerately written with character arcs that overlap with the show's over-arching plot. Comes to a beautiful conclusion. One of my favorite shows of all time, and has some of the most genuine on and off-screen chemistry I've seen.

Perhaps unfair of me to rate this but the little I saw was awful. Wiki says it was conceived as an Arthurian Smallville, I think that's shit too.

I would have loved this series 40 years ago. Generally good fun aimed at a young audience, but would've been better if the Arthur-Merlin bromance had emerged a bit from the shadows. Maybe Morgan and James could do an adult version... (PS: Merlin's summoning the dragon is almost audio-erotic.] EJ 36, IF 32

The stories get a little more interesting in the later seasons, but it usually turns down interesting in favor of safe. There are a few stand-out episodes and a fair number of sweet little moments that kept me interested. Teenaged Merlin disguising himself as a grouchy old wizard? Classic.

It honestly never gets old, even after rewatching it multiple times since it came out. It manages to be funny and witty while also having heartbreaking moments at just the right times. Overall enjoyable to watch.
