Season 1: 60

BOYCHIK - what great 80s pop culture references - especially film - with an equally awesome 80s soundtrack (hooray Roxy Music) with the meta jokes and the tennis backdrop adding a sweet and tasty flavour too. Lighthearted plot, entertaining characters and a perfect running length - short episodes and only three seasons. Drops down the quality levels a tiny bit after season 1 and focuses too much on not-as-interesting side characters, but still a very enjoyable show.

Not bad but certainly not great either

Weird to see Hal Hartley slumming it like this (but i guess i'm glad he's getting paid?) i expect about as much from David Gordon Green at this point (if anything the show actually gets better after the episodes he directed, apart from Amy Heckerling's truly awful Freaky Friday episode). I'm surprised Greg Mottola wasn't involved, it would be a natural fit for him. Overall it's fine for what it is i guess, maybe i just resent that Amazon didn't pick up Whit Stillman's great Cosmopolitans pilot?
