Hannah Dakota Fanning was born on the 23rd of February 1994, in Conyers, Georgia, USA. Before her debut into the cinematic world, Dakota did her own acting around her house. She was very active for her age, and often put a blanket under her shirt and pretended to be having a baby, using her younger sister, Elle Fanning, who is also an actress now, as the baby. Dakota went to a playhouse near her home, where the children that attended put on a play every week to show to their parents...(imdb)

Possibly the greatest five episode series of television ever but we'll never be completely sure because they made it eight episodes.

Pretty gay. Much gayer than Purple Noon but not as gay as Matt Damon. If we’re being honest it coulda used a bit more gay. The best adapt o’ the book so far (highsmith’s story is timeless, every gen will get a ripley and it’ll be good). Gorgeous looking. I did miss sexy jude and psh, how’s the peeping tommy. Scott is great but needed a little less visible creep so him harshin dickie’s vibe made sense . The characters being older worked, it made everything a little more pathetic and desperate.

Ripley is vintage conman escapism and enormously fun and thrilling, but moreso it’s a meticulously orchestrated time travel into a slower and more interactive world. The camera’s eye is astute and drawn to the locations, objects and architecture that are witnesses, actual characters in the story. The cinematography and production design of this show are almost unbelievably good for tv, it’s hard to think of anything on its level and that includes Mad Men. Acting 5/5 bravissimo (also the cat!)

a beautifully acted, shot, and written 8 hours of ripley that's just not as good as the other 2 hours of ripley

This might be the best-photographed show or film I've seen in a decade. Not since Road to Perdition has the phrase "every frame a painting" bounced about in my head so much. But given the story, the gorgeous presentation can almost alienate at times, and the whole thing feels a little... delicate, like a trinket in an antique shop you want to examine further but refuse to pick up in fear you might break it. I'd watch another season, though.

Comparison with "Talented" is inevitable--this one is less glossy, a lot grittier...much better. The b/w, "noir" approach works beautifully, Flynn's over-privileged Dickie is a bit dim and much more believable than Jude Law's playboy. Scott's none-too-bright Tom is excellent, though he does seem a bit old to be a schoolmate of Flynn's. Dakota Fanning is a vaguely unpleasant cipher most of the time. I will always miss Philip Seymour Hoffman, no matter what. Overall, VERY well done.

A feast for the eyes, perfect pacing and a strong performance by Scott. Made me think of The Octopus on more than one occasion, too. Lovely.

Leaving aside its obvious cinematic qualities that place it above all the other adaptations so far, for me what I appreciated most was how well the creepiness of Tom Ripley is captured. Andrew Scott is incredible in the titular role, with his reptilian presence that rubs wrong everybody he slithers across. It's easy to get lost in the elegance and beauty of the filmmaking, but linger just long enough on what's actually taking place on the screen and its impossible to shake the skin crawling feel

The 1999 Minghella movie is much better in many different ways but this also has its special charm, especially how it handles the tiniest details as many scenes that involve a kind of process (mechanic or psychological) linger and linger on building suspense, the anxiety and dread that the lonely characters of Highsmith always have. The feeling of the song "il cielo in una stanza" is embedded throughout, great usage of music.

A blend of brilliant cinematography, exceptional performance and fascinating story. What more could we ask for in a remarkable series?
