Scooby-Doo Goes Hollywood

1979
Musical, Family/Kids
TV Movie
49m
A musical-based parody of both the by-then infamous Scooby-Doo formula and of Hollywood in general, the storyline centered on Shaggy convincing Scooby that both of them deserve better than being stars in what he considers a low-class Saturday morning show, and attempts to pitch a number of potential prime-time shows to network executive "C.J." (voiced by Rip Torn), all of which are parodies of then-popular TV shows and movies such as Superman, Happy Days, Laverne and Shirley, The Sound of Music, (Wikipedia)

It's an alright movie (TV special?) I thought this held up a bit after not seeing it for a long time. Lots of 70s show parodies if you're into that sort of thing. No mysteries though, and Shaggy doesn't feel like his normal self. Animation is slightly improved from the TV show and is more fluid in some scenes. The movie's events raise a lot of questions about the SD universe. Like the series is portrayed in the movie as fictional, but you still get cartoon physics and such. Who knows.

I never was a big fan of Scooby Doo. I saw this movie as a kid and I can't say I cared one way or the other for it. However, there is a dumb song that's in this movie that I can still remember and will probably be able to remember as a senile old man in a nursing home. I'm not really sure if that's a credit to the film or not, but it's a true fact.

"The hills are alive..." *Falls down a cliff* That's comedy right there (this was dreadful).

Another "just fine" Scooby-Doo entry that's a bit dated, but nothing too bad if you're used to the original series. By the time one setting gets old, we're onto the next one. It drags a bit near the end, though. World's most patient TV exec. Fav scene: Happy Days parody.

Scooby-Doo was an okay show growing up but this has none of the things that made the show what it was. This was a complete miss.
