Respectable production values and it’s neat to see alternate world fantasy with a tech level more early industrial than medieval. But it felt pretty YA and the characters did not grab me at all. Hand and attention drifted to smartphone before the end of the second episode.

Passable fantasy fluff. Horrible writing and terrible pacing issues will likely hold it back from significant improvement in further series.

Good fantasy show. Has a plot and story. Acting isn't too bad. Love the magic and their spin on making it work. Love that it is also sort of a steam punk fantasy.

You know how we're supposedly in the Golden Age of TV? Well, this show belongs to the age before that. Can't tell if it's the writing or the editing but it's severely limiting the show. The directing is also uninspired at best. Perhaps the actors are decent but the casting was clearly focused on looks first. Pity for the cool universe.

Alright I actually really liked this show but I have not read the book yet so it is important to me that no one comes for my throat on this.

Themes and overall story were disappointing. Strong visuals with decent performances and direction.

I've become too old for this. Horribly bored.

After two seasons, this story is obviously over. It's done. It was a decent show, with season 2 raising stakes and delivering some sweet action scenes. The season 2 finale makes it obvious that the show will be declining in quality from this point. Come next season, they will start flogging a dead horse. So my advice, if you're into fantasy, treat yourself to the first couple of seasons and simply stop watching after the main story ends at the beginning of the S02E08. And don't look back.

It's pretty good. I'd compare this close to Narnia.

I can’t help but compare it to The Witcher adaption, seeing as they are both recent fantasy shows both from Netflix. While The Witcher had (IMO) the better world and action, Shadow and Bone feels of higher quality, even if some of the writing feels pretty Young-Adult. Jasper is the standout of the large number of characters we’re introduced to. It’s slow, but Ep 5 & 8 show promise that the later seasons could be a lot better.
