Star Trek: Starfleet Academy

If The Acolyte was your Star Wars, well, here's your Star Trek.

This has a few moments, but they're scattered into a whole lot of tropes that seem genuinely disconnected from the setting, universe, and purported character roles. The writing lets the show down, and has very tenuous sci-fi - let alone Star Trek - connections. This could be most any show in most any universe.

The Magic School Bus with Teletubbies in space. Doused with sex, gay love triangles and partying. Millenialcore at its absolute peak.

Oh god...

I thought the rock bottom had been reached for known Sci-Fi IP's with The Acolyte, but I was wrong.

Get over yourself! It's a fun high-school teen drama with fully automated luxury gay space communism. If you're expecting something else, perhaps more 'serious', then of course you're going to be disappointed. Put your brain in neutral and enjoy.

Not the Trek anyone wants. Set in the wrong time, with the wrong ideas, concepts & stories. This fluctuates wildly. Much of the writing is lazy, with characters referencing things out of their time & cultural influence a personal gripe. The cast are a mixed bunch too, some good, some bad. Credit where it’s due; some exceptional episodes & a commitment to progressiveness amidst increasing external hostility are admirable. I enjoyed it more than not, but a mismanaged franchise Trek remains.

It has it's up and downs. Better than I expected but I'm curious which direction it will go.
