Warm and colorful characters with meaningful relationships, interactions, and character development. 3 strong female leads and a young male protagonist who's entire mantra can be summed up as 'kindness' makes for a breath of fresh air in the animated world.

This is certainly one of those shows that starts out fairly simple and fun, but covertly sneaks up on you and packs an emotional wallop. Beach City is full of fantastic characters, and this show is so special and distinct in many ways. I never thought I would see a children's TV show be more progressive that 99% of adult television, but SU is. Whether it is exploring gender identity, unrequited homoromantic attraction, consent, or abnormal family structures, SU does it with heart and a song.

You go along every day, and you watch TV, and you read comics, and you try to talk about what you like and what you don't; and you try to express what's missing, what would fulfill deep emotional needs that these shows and comics have only ever touched on lightly, briefly, intermittently. But you don't know if anyone's listening. And then along comes a show like this, and you realize that someone *was* listening, and they felt the same way, and they decided to fill that hole. Thank you.

Great show, terrible fandom

Starts slowly as a somewhat generic kids show, albeit with a weird body horror bent. But as more and more of the lore is revealed, and the plot gets bigger and darker, things quickly get more interesting. The characters act and grow realistically, and the world is entirely believable. Something to keep an eye on - the best may be yet to come.

AMAZING

Steven Universe is fantastic. also manages to appeal greatly to me as an adult, more so than Avatar much of the time. The exploration of complex relationships and emotions is phenomenal. It's also funny much of the time without undercutting tense moments.

I've given this show about five episodes, hoping I'd like it as much as everyone tells me I'm supposed to like it. But truthfully I find it unengaging, heavy-handed, and dull. I usually have loved Tartakovsky's work (looking at you Dexter's Lab), but this doesn't grab me.

a heartfelt show singing the praises of being Nice. not afraid to directly explore mature topics, but never really dark. a beautiful finale
