I couldn't quite put my finger on why I wasn't enjoying Swamp Thing. The show is atmospheric, well-animated (CGI) and develops some cool ideas, albeit a little slowly. Turns out I just didn't find the characters engaging...stuff happens to them, they do things, but ultimately they lack any depth of personality, and it really affects the show.

It is a huge missed opportunity; because they got the Swamp Thing effects right, the characters are not bad either (Although Avery is a bit too much), but then they go too much classical Gothic Horror. DC always plays it very safe with Alan Moore material; if they just let it go and do something experimental like Legion or WandaVision; it might turn out wonderful. They kept the actual Woodrue story for the second season that will never come unfortunately; I liked the way Durand's acting.

Dialogue scenes are like listening to the adults on Charlie Brown cartoons, I only really perked up when Swamp Thing came on screen. Best to treat it like an old kung fu flick, skip ahead to the action scenes.
