Lovingly told and consistently engaging. Takes all the vaguely Enochian and Gnostic beats of the original narrative and adds some needed emotional and political heft to it, without ever draining it of its underlying... essence. The visuals are one thing (you get the sense the muppeteers were in ecstasy the whole time) but it's peppered with some stunning dialogue and voice work - which is what really propels the story and keeps you invested. I'll certainly be revisiting this Thra.

It started a little slow but ended up being a really nice fantasy epic. Far surpassing just being a cool or eccentric muppet piece.

Straight up magic. Expertly put together from a technical standpoint but every beat here clicks. This world swallows you whole and is just the most enjoyable experience. Like the Skeksis crave essence, I just want more of this injected into my veins.

Age of Resistance is a star-studded prequel that improves on the original film by expanding the lore and delivering an epic story with compelling characters, while remaining true to the puppetry style with a few CG polishes. The series is full of charm and whimsy, but never shys away from darker tones when the plot requires. It is consistent with the film, though assumes you are familiar with it, slightly re-contextualising certain plot points. The score is great and really helps set each scene.

This is fantastic. You can tell no expense had been spared and it's made by people to love and "get" the original. Some stunning visuals and a faithful modernisation of the puppetry elements without coming off in stark contrast to the look of the original. I hope netflix and Henson studios team up again for something like a labyrinth sequel.

Masterpiece. I have never believed that I would have fell empathy for puppets. Here I am, almost break in tears. Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance is a colorful world with strange creatures ruled by the hideous Skeksis. Take your time, names are difficult to learn, some characters are similar to others. But it is worth it. Goosebumps. Congratulations to the creators, they did a marvelous work. Jim Henson would be proud. Thank you, guys. Nothing left to say. If you like fantasy, press play.

Visually stunning series, explains more of the universe that was not explained in the original 80s movie. I discovered this as an adult, but you have to enjoy the graphics and the star cast of this series. Well done to Netflix to do this series.

Magical brilliance!!! I haven't felt the 'suspension of belief in such looooong time! it's good to not see 'people'/'humans' sometimes... because there are times..... I just CAN'T STAND THEM!

Beautifully made. The puppetry mixed with CGI colourful visuals and a powerful score really works magic. Stays true to the original while enhancing it in new ways. Cool characters. Very much worth seeing. My only gripe with this series is that it does suffer a bit from prequel syndrome, in that the ultimate outcome has already been decided in the original film. Furthermore, some things felt a bit random and tacked on (e.g. the Podling bathing sequence) and the final two episodes weren't as good.

☆ As much as I appreciate the effort and lore behind this, it was too much information about a world that isn't compelling enough to watch 6 hours of. After the first episode I felt extremely tired! I love the practical effects though, such a great tribute to Henson and I'm sure he would have loved it. ☆

Had some real trouble getting into the story, as the dialogues of the first few episodes were subpar and chaotic. When the quest was clear and the whole thing settled, it felt like an epic adventure that was an absolute marvel to look at. Once again proves that human nature can be reflected on best by creating a little distance by introducing different species.
