Feels hastily cobbled together with cheap sets, cheap props and rushed execution in all departments. Sky must have pumped a fair wedge into to this so can only have been disappointed dreadful result and the horrid acting from some of the more expensive established names of British TV. The editing is dire too and even the usually silk to the senses Matt Berry couldn't save this festive howler. There was potential here but the whole thing is embarrassingly amateurish.

“The Last Dragonslayer” is a fantasy film that blends British wit with magic, corporate satire, and a coming-of-age tale. Adapted from a novel, it plays like a brisk walk through a story that wanted to be a journey. The special effects are serviceable, though the dragon falls a bit short. It definitely has a made-for-TV feel, and if you approach it with that in mind, it’s a watchable, if modest, adventure.

This world of horse-drawn automobiles and medieval capitalism makes little sense, but is surprisingly fun.

As my first contact with Fforde's work - and not necessarily hoping for much, absent any word-of-mouth on this particular piece - it was better than I'd expected. I could've done without some elements (the foppish would-be 'dragonslayer assistant' comes immediately to mind), but TLD made its way capably down the road despite anything I'd characterize as a misstep.

From the cheesy production to the trope-filled story, The Last Dragonslayer is about as good as it deserves to be. There is nothing to write home about, but this family (obviously made-for-TV) movie is not without its charms. Objectively it's not good nor does it do anything novel, but I daresay I did enjoy it somewhat.
