The Leisure Class

A complete train wreck that nonetheless displays splatterings of talent, though very hard to appreciate without the vital context of Project Greenlight. The production process for this film was shocking but equally fascinating.

What a mess. The motive of the main character isn't made clear at all, as what's described in the synopsis, isn't what's portrayed in the film. I just thought he was a guy who wanted to leave his poor past behind and marry into riches, with no nefarious intentions whatsoever. How is this the best that you can get from a talent competition sponsored by HBO, Matt Damon and Ben Affleck? Shame.

I don't watch reality-TV so I've got no emotional attachment to Project Greenlight participant Jason Mann and his HBO sponsored feature debut. But the result was hardly a impressive comedy. The characters simply get too annoying... and unclear. The empty ending leaves the experience close to pointless.

(DULYNOTED & I)

Jason, with love in my heart, your movie is dreadful. (Far more hilarious than anything this tries to pass off as comedy is how eager Mann is to namedrop Bunuel and Pasolini as influences. Because, you know, Teorema would have been better with some Russell Brand-by-way-of-Pete Doherty doofus obnoxiously bantering the whole time.)
