The first WrestleMania had a certain kind of low-budget charm. Between the simplistic lighting, the use of Gene Okerlund as the singer of the national anthem, and the intentional variation in match times, this rough-around-the-edges production feels like a glimpse into wrestling before Vince McMahon realized he had the wrestling market by the balls. With that said, it could've used more matches outside of the format of "big name vs. obvious jobber."

Ricky Steamboat fights Doink the Clown, ten years before he was Doink the Clown. How can you not love that?

While it was important for wrestling it's hard to shake the fact that it was still a lackluster project compared to 8 months later with their Wrestlevision Classic PPV. Still, as an answer to Starrcade it was an overall better show. Kudos to Mr. T actually having some wrestling chops as compared to most other celebrities that have come since.

The matches here all range from bad to average. Even the main event, while an incredible spectacle, is poor when judged by athletic merit. The points I've given are mostly due to the good memories old wrestling gives me. I love the production and graphics on these old events, and Gorilla Monsoon and Jesse Ventura are a great commentating team.

This was very good. Sure there is no music entrance, or wrestlers pandering to the crowd here but you had a lot of good matches on this card and it feels like a sporting event. Before every match 1 min interviews of why Guy A and B will win their respective matches. Real songs for 3 of the wrestlers. Matches I didn't like was the beef cake one, Giant Slamming Studd. Best Match Bundy squashing Jones. This pay per view was 2 hours 20 min. So a huge plus with that.
