Fast Color

This one came out of nowhere, but it feels a bit like how Unbreakable felt in 2000, like a slow-burning superhero film that's not so much about powers as it is about character depth and growth. The rising musical score also is similar to Unbreakable. Definitely a fun movie in it's own right.

Superhero films don't always grapple with the human gravitas of having superpowers. This film, however, does a great job of showing a young woman struggling with her abilities, family issues, and addictions. Cinematically, it can be clunky at times--like the drought setting and tossing you into the deep end of the story's opening. But the emotional core picks up as the picture goes on. Your enjoyment will depend on how much you enjoy inspirational stories. But I thought of it as a girly Logan!

As a superhero (and for that matter, post-apocalyptic) film, it's completely perfunctory - and the budget shows enough that I expect the genre touches were strictly a market confession. But as a magical realist tale of three generations of black women independently struggling to find their places in the world? It's very fine indeed.

Definitely kudos for focusing on the people instead of the powers, even if the script is a bit flawed and the budget shows.

I don't know if it really deserves the good rating, it has some very cheesy and dumb moments, but I love these kinds of movies that find something original to do in the context of some extremely genre tropes

This is a nice little surprise. As Iamdwg said, it does feel like Unbreakable. It's powerful and mirrors the inner turmoil of the main character with her powers, her inability to control them and see the colours. Good performances, and while it is slow, I was compelled the entire time. That's because the character work is strong but subtle, and although maybe on the surface the plot isn't anything that original, it plays with it and its themes well.

There is a lot to like about this film : the acting, the FX, the intimate atmosphere, unusual for a Sci-Fi like this. Too bad the plot is so full of holes.

The plot has amazing magical powers but without a coherent or compelling story. Why is it that terrible writers and lack-luster directors keep getting opportunities to make boring uninspired movies. This movie mostly just plods along like a tired donkey? Some of the special effects were colorful but entirely pointless. Saved somewhat by an interesting lead actress but otherwise unfulfilling.
