A big pile of dumb fun! The movie up and starts over halfway through and the characters know it and comment on it! Characters die and then are just back a few minutes later. Ahhhh it's great!

VERY silly Monkees-style Japanese comedy. Stranger than funny.

One of Oshima's best leftist bangers. Follows every social construct to its logical ends with scathing results.

Oshima earns his 'Godard of the East' title with this one. It's silly, inventive, and always some seething commentary lying just under the surface (sometimes throwing it right in your face, but never obnoxiously).

Weird and funny, at least until things start repeating themselves at which point I started to get bored.

The film follows a madcap, dreamlike logic, with abrupt time jumps and characters coming back from the dead. It's an inventive, audacious commentary on both the Vietnam War and Japanese xenophobia. The overt politics, playful structure and vibrant color scheme are highly reminiscent of Godard. Although the humor didn't really connect with me, I have to applaud Oshima for a unique, daring and completely unpredictable work.
