Partisan

All points to Oneohtrix Point Never's scoring. OOF! Like a punch in the gut.

possible spoilers: Vincent Cassel is so very charismatic, You know that he is the bad guy, yet his calm demeanor always makes you feel otherwise, its a really good performance. I would have actually liked to see more of the compound and what his plans were, as it is though, the movie was a great representation of cult life inside a compound. Do what we say, or else.

Partisan is another modern film with a vague existence. With that said, Partisan works rather well with it's enigmatic presence. The music, how it's sparsely used, helped create the world they live in. Sets the mood of it's characters like Vincent Cassel as this questionable father figure to these child assassins he's inspiring. Credit to young Jeremy Chabriel delivering a very respectable performance in his movie debut opposite the veteran bad guy. The simple formula works pleasingly well.

A worthy dystopian film, with an unsurprisingly fantastic performance from Cassel and a surprisingly great performance from the young newcomer Chabriel who works well against the French master, especially given the dramatic themes of standing up against the one and only authority figure. On the other hand, it's a bit dull and the storyline reveals itself to be slim (some scenes feel like reiterations), might've worked better as a 40-minute film.

Worth seeing for the way in which the film's interesting premise is presented gradually - and for Cassel, who acts his ass off. But some scenes go on for too long, and the child performances leave something to be desired.
