Ziyi Zhang's best Movie...she is so unbelievable cute and plays hear role perfect.I felt in Love in the first few seconds.It's a slow and patient Movie,great Cinematography, great Landscape everything is just so beautiful and pleasent. Highly recommendable to those who love Chinese Cinema.

A wonderfully simple story, well-paced/acted, and wrapped around some achingly beautiful cinematography. That's about all and it's enough.

When I watched it, I felt it was longer than necessary, but the repetitive imagery has really burned its way into my brain so that I have really clear memories of this film. It's a simple story with compelling cinematography and a window into Chinese cultural values.

Yes, you've seen if before in different guises - the pre-marriage but pre-destined pairing along with the rural values beat city values always themes. Very generic, but so very well shot and acted that it is well above run-of-the-mill. Slowish in typical Asian style (not for full-on-CGI-laden-action-only fans) but this one really works. (Thrashes the typical Western movie IMO). If genre appeals this is a 100% watch it, for others, certainly give it a try esp. those unused to Asian movie-making.

Simply told, a straightforward romance, a story of patience and fidelity, that also reasserts the worth of traditional values over crass materialism.

Very typical romance. Rather trite and tedious, though not without occasional quaint moments of charm. Zhang Ziyi does an awful lot of running in this movie.

A deliberately paced movie that focuses on the beginning and end of this couples life together.Ziyi Zhang lights up every frame she is in with a subtle grace that is a delight to watch.Yimou Zhang's distinctive use of colors and breathtaking cinematography is on full display here and really adds so much to this delightful movie.
