The Wood

Excellent male bonding flick...going back down memory lane and marveling at how inept you were when growing up!

There is nothing extraordinary about The Wood. Its plot isn't new, but its place and its characters are, and I think that's where it succeeds the most. The camaraderie between Mike (Omar Epps), Slim (Richard T. Jones), and Roland (Taye Diggs) and their ties to where they grew up is what forms the foundation for the movie. It was an enjoyable experience to watch all three of these characters navigate moving on while looking back. I also loved Rick Famuyiwa integration of music in the film.

An extremely mild-mannered and lighthearted little coming of age movie, but for whatever reason I found it pretty likable. It seemed like it meant well and lacked a shred of cynicism.

Pretty slow going, & not much to entertain except the good looking guys. There's plenty of good or interesting scenes but nothing really to hold them together.

I really just like this movie because it reminds me of my friends and me in high school. Recommended to anyone who has two best friends and one of them is married.

Three friends reflect on their lives and some pivotal events. It was difficult to mate their young selves with their adult counterparts. The characters were well acted, and there were a few humorous and entertaining moments. However, the movie also falls into familiar black stereotypes. This movie tries to be edgy and represent black culture, but shows yet another group of black people lacking good manners and common courtesy toward each others. Not all blacks are from the ghetto!
