10 highest scoring new/contemporary directors

Post by Moribunny »

Rules:
- Made their feature-length debut 1994 or after (I'm not including purely short film makers).
- 3 film minimum (because some of them will not have done a lot yet).

Here are mine [quick edit :D ]:

1. Lynne Ramsay - 79.2 (5)
2. Cristian Mungiu - 78.25 (4)
3. Sylvain Chomet - 77.62 (3)
4. Nuri Bilge Ceylan - 75.25 (4)
5. Andrew Bujalski - 74.33 (3)
6. Jafar Panahi - 73.67 (3)
7. Shane Meadows - 72.17 (6)
8. Wen Jiang - 71.57 (3)
9. James Gray - 71.5 (4)
10. Joseph Cedar, 67 (3), Aaron Katz - 67 (3) (tied)

Runners up: Jaume Balaguero, Adam Elliott, Dover Koshashvili

Why 1994? Because 1995 would have been just as arbitrary, I sought to include Gray and Jiang, and I make the rules.

6/2014 - following drastic changes, my up-to-date list is on the second page of this thread

Throwing out some names (I think) adhering to 1994. Ordered by instinct.

Lynne Ramsay
Carlos Reygadas
Shane Meadows
Duane Hopkins
Wes Anderson
Alejandro González Iñárritu
Hirokazu Koreeda
Chan-wook Park

Andrea Arnold's Wuthering Heights is on C4, the 29th (UK). Enjoyed FT & RR.

1. Paul Thomas Anderson - 69.50 (4)
2. Apichatpong Weerasethakul - 69.00 (4)
3. Wes Anderson - 61.60 (5)
4. Tomas Alfredson - 58.33 (3)
5. Christopher Nolan - 56.15 (6)
6. Darren Aronofsky - 49.60 (5)
7. Gaspar Noé - 56.67 (3)
8. Brad Bird - 45.00 (4)
9. Guy Ritchie - 36.67 (3)
10. Andy and Lana Wachowski - 35.67 (3)

There's so much wrong with that list... God... clearly Weerasethakul is the best director of of those and I feel ashamed not to have higher scores for more people.
