Prisoners (2013) - Rated 08 Jun 2023

“Prisoners” fails to escape its own web of complexities. Despite its well-intentioned effort to weave a dense, character-driven narrative, it falls into the traps of convoluted storytelling and sensationalist theatrics. It's a film that promises to lead viewers into an intriguing labyrinth of dark secrets and human depravity but leaves them wandering aimlessly in a tangle of loose ends and unfulfilled expectations.

Spider-Man 3 (2007) - Rated 08 Jun 2023

Despite its admirable ambition, this Spider-Man venture is a tangled web of overcrowded plotlines, underdeveloped characters, and wasted potential. It’s a film that could have benefitted from the adage "less is more".

The Amazing Spider-Man (2012) - Rated 08 Jun 2023

"The Amazing Spider-Man" demonstrates some successes, particularly in its initial exploration of character and the humanity of its protagonist. Yet it is hindered by its inability to reconcile a deep, character-driven plot with the demands of a blockbuster spectacle. There is an underlying sense of ambition in this film, a desire to breathe fresh life into a well-loved narrative. For that, it should be applauded, despite its shortcomings.

This installment of Spider-Man offers a feast of visual grandeur and high-stakes spectacle, peppered with moments of warmth and levity. Spider-Man (2002) - Rated 08 Jun 2023

Spider-Man delivers a visually spectacular but narratively unremarkable take on Spider-Man's tale. It falls prey to a number of superhero movie clichés, yet the heart of the story - Peter's journey towards responsibility - offers a glimmer of the depth that might have been. Despite the film's many shortcomings, it remains a passable addition to the superhero genre and will likely appease the less critical viewer

Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) - Rated 04 Jun 2023

This film presents a fusion of genre elements that promises much but delivers little. It stands as a testament to the fact that dazzling visuals and a high-profile cast cannot compensate for an uninspired storyline. In the parlance of our young hero's academia, I’d grade it a barely passing score.
