Collateral Damage (2002) - Rated 17 Jul 2025
"The lack of realism didn’t bother me, but the film remains grim with underwhelming action. It’s hard to find anything truly enjoyable. Even the twist fails to add meaning to an already shaky story. Ironically, the only memorable moment might be the senseless outburst at the TV station - the real collateral damage."
Striptease (1996) - Rated 02 Jul 2025
"The thing that stuck with me wasn’t the stripping, but Burt Reynolds covered in Vaseline."
The Marine (2006) - Rated 01 Jul 2025
"John Cena keeps diving out of explosions like it's nothing. The guy is basically indestructible. Robert Patrick makes a strong impression as the villain. Honestly, that’s about all I took from it, but it wasn’t bad."
Murder at 1600 (1997) - Rated 24 Jun 2025
"This film brings together a cast I really enjoy, all delivering solid performances, with Diane Lane particularly striking. The mystery of who the killer is keeps things engaging, even if the plot itself veers into the implausible. Action scenes are well, and the Secret Service comes off as laughably incompetent, though perhaps unintentionally realistic."
Gloria (1999) - Rated 18 Jun 2025
"This remake replaces realism with implausibility. The bond between Sharon Stone and the boy is hollow, maybe due to the weak script, maybe the acting, probably both. In the end, the only thing the film seems committed to is showing off Stone’s endlessly exposed legs. There’s no tension, no emotion, just legs."
Non-Stop (2014) - Rated 10 Jun 2025
"The ending feels weak, but the suspense builds well with constantly shifting suspicions. Most of the film is tense and engaging. The boss sucks. Two-faced and smug."
Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels (1998) - Rated 03 Jun 2025
"The part that cracked me up the most was the stoned girl basically fused with the couch."
Death Wish (2018) - Rated 30 May 2025
"A solid modern take on the vigilante genre. It was better than expected, but unfortunately got released at the wrong time and didn’t get the credit it deserved."
Tears of the Sun (2003) - Rated 29 May 2025
"As an action film, it’s reasonably engaging, with tense sequences and a solid performance from Bruce Willis. At the same time, it invites reflection on the brutal reality of civil conflict in Africa, though often in a surface-level way. There’s also an unmistakable undertone of moral self-justification, where the heroism of the American military is portrayed with little nuance. It’s a film that entertains, but also leaves you questioning its intentions."
Those Who Wish Me Dead (2021) - Rated 28 May 2025
"The film is riddled with pointless scenes and paper-thin character development. The two hitmen were especially dull and completely lacked charisma. Only a few moments stood out, such as the pregnant woman's confrontation and the fire escape scenes with Angelina Jolie and the boy. Overall, a poorly constructed thriller."
