90 87% Prisoners (2013) - Rated 24 Dec 2022
"Absolutely fantastic. The two leads are great, but I was especially drawn to Gyllenhaal's Detective Loki. So many twist and turns and some very dark subject matter, but it never goes to a too extreme level. A haunting score. Actually the first Villeneuve film I've seen, definitely need to change that."
75 27% Bullet Train (2022) - Rated 10 Dec 2022
"Just a lot of fun with some memorable characters and solid action set pieces. Fun cameos as well."
75 27% Training Day (2001) - Rated 17 Mar 2022
"Good movie it just do didn't hit me like I was expecting. It felt a bit on the nose like Denzel's character was almost too much of a scumbag and Hawke's was too good. The acting from the two leads is great though but yeah just didn't hit me like I was expecting."
85 68% The Big Trail (1930) - Rated 13 Mar 2022
"Surprised by how much I liked this aside from, well, it's dated take on the "cowboys vs indians" trope where it's so incredibly apparent that the filmmakers have no interest in the later side. Still, it's fantastic at depicting the dangerous journey that the settlers would have had to go through in their traversal into the west. Honestly surprised Wayne didn't become a star off of this role, because he was surprisingly great here despite it being his very first lead role."
60 6% Cabaret (1972) - Rated 12 Mar 2022
"I think the idea of this film with it being set in a night club during the rise of Nazism is super interesting but I'd be lying it if I said I was always invested in this film. I don't know if it's the writing or the acting or this overwhelming feeling I had that the movie didn't quite "commit" to it's subject matter as much as I would have liked. I'll have to give it a re-watch at some point."
75 27% Madrid, 1987 (2011) - Rated 12 Mar 2022
"Some genuinely interesting subject matter but I definitely can't blame anyone for being put off by how it plays out to say the least."
75 27% Christopher Strong (1933) - Rated 12 Mar 2022
"Sort of drab film that really only hits at the end, Hepburn is very good here. And it's interesting how up front it was with the daughter and her affair with a married man. Pre-Hays code magic, I guess."
81 56% A Bill of Divorcement (1932) - Rated 11 Mar 2022
"I feel like the dialogue is a bit stiff at times but Barrymore and Hepburn are great here and really add a lot of gravitas to it all. It's just a very sad film and while I don't really agree with some of it's statements about mental illness because hey they just haven't aged that well, the performances are so earnest that I definitely teared up here."
80 45% Inside Man (2006) - Rated 11 Mar 2022
"A highly entertaining film with some good performances with just a bit of depth too. Clive Owen was really good here, though. Definitely stole the show."
