(2nd viewing) Uncomfortably weird but aesthetically beautiful and endlessly imaginative, 'Alice in Wonderland' may be Disney's least accessible film, but by far one of, if not their best and most thought provoking, and that's a huge plus in my book. I love the following (about the ending): "She gradually awakens from the dream and muses on her adventures in Wonderland, realizing that perhaps logic and reason exist for a purpose."

Alice in Wonderland is definitely the weirdest Disney animation I can recall. As a kid I loved this film but I had absolutely no idea what was going on. And looking back I can't believe how much of a trippy experience it was. The Disney formulae is refreshingly absent and this feels more like a bizarre series of sketches and characters rather than your usual linear children's story. The characters are timeless and it was definitely ahead of its time and an admirably bold choice for Disney.

Forget how surreal this film is; I feel like if I actually ever got high and watched it, I'd mostly be laughing my ass off. "I say, stop kicking that mackerel!"

For the most part the film was just weird-for-weirdness with little to keep the interest. And then again there were moments of greatness like Tea Party scene. Cheshire Cat had its moments as did King of Hearts and I also liked that matter-of-factness of Alice. Good things but not enough to save the film. Then again, every Disney animation (ignoring most of those straight-to-video releases) is worth watching at least once.

Alice in Wonderland is very interesting and a good showing of the oddness of Lewis Carroll. It's an excellent example of how Disney used to be darker and bolder with their films. Pretty good!

The animation is pretty amazing, especially considering it was all done by hand back in the day. I've always been a fan of the story itself and the message in support of the imagination and living in the surreal. The Cheshire Cat is probably the best character, as exemplified when he makes the dog comparison. His whimsical/careless/muddling persona appeals to me a lot. None of the appeal comes from nostalgia here, I never saw this movie as a kid. Awesome for those obsessed with the bizarre.

The animation is sumptuous, and the film remains fairly faithful to the source work. It's not a coherent film, but it shouldn't be. It joyfully jumps from one absurd scenario to the next, while capturing some of the subversive social commentary Carroll hid inside the nonsensical surface nature of the books. One of the best of Disney's golden age.

Great nonsense, that Carpenter and Walrus segment is so DANK - there’s a tobacco warning before this on Disney plus, bitch I just watched a walrus lure an oyster lady’s children away after snuffing her out and devour them all lol I love that everything in the white rabbits house is shaped like a rabbit - pillow, clock, frame, chairs etc could you imagine how fucked up it would be going over to someone’s house and everything is shaped like them.

Even though Disney doesn't highlight his metaphors as well as Carroll does, both source and adaptation still manage to convey an Alice attempting to find purpose and a world where she belongs - similar to another literary and cinematic classic, The Wizard of Oz.

(2014-15 Disneython #7:) While certainly episodic, there is a lot of visual imagination and even some genuine eerieness here. There are some very enjoyable scenes such as Alice's encounter with the flowers or the Cheshire Cat or various issues with getting too big/small.

Frenetic, sometimes bizarre and really funny, this Disney animation is maybe the most surrealistic, psychedelic film ever made. I mean, it's not funny, but frightening, Jesus... thank God it took me some years to see it -- I'm just kidding, you know, but the fact is that Wonderland is as beautiful as eccentric.

Has some funny scenes (their dialogues were well written). But some scenes were boring and slow. Though, it started fast and was well paced during the rabbit hole scene, but after it got slow. I also didn't some of the songs. And what was the point of those talking flowers, Walrus and the Carpenter and 'Tweedledum and Tweedledee'? They don't belong in this film (as they were not in the book). This film was trippy, though. LOL. I agree with the other people who said this.

If not the perfect adaptation one could hope for then it's a wonderful tribute to the book and has enough strengths to stand as a classic in its own right. Draws you in to Wonderland slowly but effectively, delightfully reveling in the surrealism of it all, especially at the glorious climax. The voice acting is great, and the animation is used to great effect.

The walrus and the carpenter are Disney's parable of unfettered capitalism; the March Hare and Mad Hatter that of anarcho-syndicalism; the Queen of Hearts totalitarianism. The caterpillar represents the detached, decadent media-intelligentsia; the Cheshire Cat the dislocated guerrilla keyboard warrior in the mold of Wikileaks/Anonymous/TPB etc . Alice herself is of course, the most important of all, the consumer. Someone give me a grant and tenure at the nearest liberal arts university.

A staple as a child, I'm glad the folks at Disney decided to stay mostly true to the original books, at least as true as fitting two books into a 90 minute film could get. It has a subtle darkness to it that balances out the ridiculous Disney animation.

A brightly-colored descent into absurdity, which would only make sense to the mind of a child or a person on hallucinogens. If you're into stylization, this shouldn't be missed. If you're more into the story, then this is reasonably amusing, if a bit empty.

(Viewed on 16/01/14): Easily the best cinematic adaptation of Carroll's proto-surrealist classic, Disney's animation team used his wonderful illustrations as the aesthetic basis for their vision which has enthralled generations of children since its release. The rogues gallery of colourful and eccentric characters is humorous, the songs are infectious, and the episodic narrative offers plenty of imaginative set pieces that dazzle and stun with eye popping colours and voracious voice work.

A film rumored to be adopted by the acid culture in the sixties due to its technicolor rehash of Carrol's book. Watch the T in the calendar scene, it inexplicably vibrates from its natural tone to a bold red, briefly, but long enough to send the average acid freak into mental acrobatics. The nostalgia, drug or youth related, surrounding this particular edition of Alice in Wonderland should carry it endlessly through future generations.

If you like the story you'll like this. While some things are certainly pacified for a more homely audience the core of Alice in Wonderland is certainly present. It's full of absurd and surreal imagery found in the book and the vivid colours really make Wonderland feel like Wonderland. With all that said I frankly don't care much for the story of Alice in Wonderland so it was merely decent.
