"I’ve read a review where someone says you need to have read the book in order to understand parts of the movie. I completely agree. The ransom transaction for example was genius on part of the kidnappers, but blink twice and you would have missed it. The movie tortures the facts and it makes for a worse story. Chief among them is the story of Willem Holleeder, renamed “Rem” in the movie, whose background story is quite ridiculous if you are in the know about Dutch crime."
