"I DO enjoy a good Rom-Com, sadly this is NOT a good Rom-Com, it's a decidedly average, meandering one which had plenty of acting talent on show and plenty of plot potential but never really went anywhere, meanding around with the occasional humorous moment. It didn't have had to be 'hard bondage' blatent but without *anything* at all why not be inspired by any number of other books, except to attract people to watch this movie... or maybe that was the intent and they got scared!"
78 76% The Equalizer (2014) - Rated 01 Jan 2019
"Hard hitting, stylish, violent and action packed with a great, powerful score... the movie is generally straightword in plot so needs a performer like Denzel to make it really work - but it has Denzel so it really works... between McCall and Wick are there any Russian Mobsters left?"

"Very suspensfull thriller that had my heart really pounding at times, especially as it neared the end when even though it was more obvious what was happening the viewer was left unsure as to how it would finally pan out amongst the numerous (logical) twists. I'm not a fan of movies that use flashbacks, as this one does, but in this case these methods were used very well and were actually very important to the plot. Not sure how well it will stand up to repeated watches but it might just do it"
72 45% Mortal Engines (2018) - Rated 17 Dec 2018
"Steampunk style action movie with a Star Wars vibe (and plot TBH) is how I would describe this. I was expecting a bit more of a Hunger Games harder edge which I would have preferred but I was still happy and the steampunk designs and visuals are absolutely stunning. I'll be in line if they decide to do more of the books (and I'd hope if they do they can add a bit more complexity) but it works well standalone (unlike Gridelwald) telling a decent, if relatively predictable action adventure tale."
71 39% Tightrope (1984) - Rated 03 Dec 2018
"I can see obvious Dirty Harry character incluences but the humanising of Clint's character in this movie by introducing his children and showing he had real life problems (his marriage collapse and his subsequent weakness for the seamier side of the sex-trade) made the character different able to relate to the killer and the victims. A good role for Clint to priove he can do more than be the perfect anti-hero and to direct as well Certainly worth a watch if not one of his best."
75 64% Venom (2018) - Rated 10 Nov 2018
"A whole lotta fun... more violent than the regular Marvel fare but not much; action is great with lots of standout set pieces, the humour was good with people laughing out loud in my sparse, near end-of-run cinema showing. My only significant criticism is that the main conflict/plot conclusion was too quick after the build-up and the villain lacked prescence, but other than the slightly rushed denouement I really enjoyed the whole thing! Can't wait for the set-up sequel... gonna be Carnage!"

"Amazing visuals, explosive action, cool styling and an interesting plot don't quite gel the way I wanted them to so much in this which is just the genre of film I enjoy. I don't think it's poor as some make it out to be but it has such potential and is based on superb anime I just want it to be brilliant and it comes up short... still enjoyed it when it was kicking ass and showing its flair though."
