Norman Lear's socially conscious writing has made this sitcom stand the test of time. Its 70s Queens aesthetic feels inviting, memorable, and deeply authentic, which aids the humor and the drama. The show loses its way in the later seasons, but its refreshing sense of humor and the fearlessness of the writers made this one of the most historically important sitcoms ever made.

An amazing piece of television for the times. Poking fun at the bigotry at the time was pretty ballsy. It remains fairly funny today, especially when compared to most of the other comedies of the era.

Hilarious at times but dry or awkward in others. Renowned for tackling social issues in a proactive way. It brought characters to entertainment that have been imitated and parodied, but have been lovingly revered- even the bigoted Archie Bunker is viewed warmly. Worth watching once in a while.

Every episode is a teleplay that creates drama from conflicting opinions on contentious issues, and finds a way to be funny in the breaths between. The problem with this show is that Mike and Gloria are a preachy exposition delivery service for a man too ignorant to serve back anything but laughs. The result is that the people that I agree with the most are also the most unlikable, and the playing field isn't exactly leveled. Archie > Edith >> Michael >>> Gloria

Classic tv show about a divided family that somehow managed to live together It was not afraid to take on hot topics that are still relevant today But sadly I feel it doesn't hold up well over time If any show deserved a remake of reboot this one certainly deserves it

Landmark TV comedy exploring a generation gap that is also a political divide.
