A series that over five seasons displays a superb sense of time and place, which makes up for the uneven realisation of its characters, and at moments is quite tense. Richard Harrow ranks with Bodie of The Wire as one of the most fascinating and sympathetic of supporting characters in an extended series.

Except for season 4 (which drraaaagged its way along at the speed of a snail), I enjoyed it all very much. From big, lush 1920s production values to plot twists to hard-nosed gangster talk to bloody violence to bare boobs, it was just a good watch I always looked forward to, though I don't know that I'll go back and rewatch the whole series anytime soon. Best episode? The season 2 finale. Best character? Hard to say - maybe Richard Harrow.

Accurately misogynistic at times, thus a little demoralizing. Even if you want to just enjoy "art for art's sake" - no need for ideological purity or Aesopian wisdom - it's still a little irritating to watch as a chick, imo, as many situations are reminiscently annoying, then glamorized & idolized by impressionable young men you might watch it with. "Look at these gangstas! That's how a man should be!" many modern men at 20 are thinking, watching it like children. Tiresome. Great art direction.

Very slow pacing most of the time with some highly-intense moments in between. Truly a crime drama great. Many fantastic and messed up characters. Great/7

I think First seasons were more interesting than next seasons. After death of Michael Pitt, I lost my attention on serie.

First two seasons are well worth watching but then the show shoots in more than one direction and there's a distinct feeling of just milking it. Just like House of Cards, one should simply stop watching after the second season.

I really liked Buscemi in this role of a politician becoming a true gangster (in a way, it's a trasformation Breaking Bad-like); i really liked the production values and the recostruction of the age; and i really liked the end, perfect for a series as this one. Through all the series there was up (Jimmy's and Margaret's stories, ex.) & downs (Van Alden and Rosetti was too freak for this show, i think), but in the end it's a very solid and memorable crime series.

This remained a classily made, convincing depiction of mob brutality and greed throughout its entire run, but it peaked at season three with Bobby Cannavale's unreal stint as Gyp Rosetti. Buscemi commands every scene he's in with an impeccable, cool restraint, as if he's always wrestling with turmoil and anger just beneath the surface.

It's old-timey "Sopranos." They both got the same score from me, this lost a few points for not giving me as many likeable characters, but made up for it with a wonderful setting. Both were great the first time through, but I don't think I'll ever go back and watch either again, so they "only" get an 80.

Really good show almost ruined by a terrible finale that makes no sense. All of the people they depict in this show are infamous and if you live in America, you know who they are. Everyone knows how Al Capone died. So when Nucky gets killed in the end, it's like what? That guy died of old age, which is the most gangster way to go. Al Capone has never been done better and the shows constant theme of power is very appealing to me. Loved it but skip the finale

Nucky Thompson, Chalky White, Nelson Van Alden, Richard Harrow, Gyp Rosetti, Al Capone, Jimmy Darmody, Arnold Rothstein, so many great characters. The show can actually feel somewhat unfocused at times because of the huge cast of characters and suffers from some pacing issues because of this. Michael Shannon has a bigger and crazier character arc in this than Bryan Cranston had in Breaking Bad and nobody talks about that.

Stunning setting, a huge cast and a peopledriven plot weaving around Nucky. It's almost enough to camouflage the fact that witty lines are no substitute for personality and mysterious is not a substitute for interesting and Nucky is simply not a good enough character to be the centre of five seasons. Could we get a spin-off with Chalky instead?

Obviously an attempt by HBO to recapture the magic of The Sopranos, and on the surface it's amazing with the talent at hand and period setting. The big sticking point for me is that Buscemi, as much as I like him, made Nucky more detached than compelling. Worth watching but definitely feels like this never reached its full potential. Highlights are everything Michael Shannon does, Bobby Cannavale, Graham as Capone in the last season, and that Eli/FBI guy fight. Finale sucked big balls though.

It's no Sopranos, but it is definitely well acted. It suffers a lot of what feels like wondering. Still, Buscemi and Shannon as well as some of the others are great and it doesn't leave a bad taste in the mouth or anything.

Solid period drama executed with typical HBO competency and sporting an amazing ensemble cast, but lacking much of an original vision. It's an entertaining watch but it hardly ranks a mention alongside HBO's titans.
