A piercing social critique of (not only) the American black culture. It's so politically incorrect that if McGruder wasn't black, the BLM crowd would have a meltdown and try to cancel the authors. Which might still happen with the upcoming reboot anyways.

People forget that the Boondocks had a lot of boring/unfunny episodes but I do think there's something to be said about the show's legacy when people look back on it and laugh at its amusing and at times insightful takes on politics. Coming out in the age of Obama definitely helped it, and Uncle Ruckus is a glorious parody of the Uncle Tom stereotype.

Has occasional moments of brilliance but never really kept my attention to where I was excited to watch another episode. Loved the MLK episode "Black Entertainment Television is the worst thing I've seen in my life!" And Uncle Ruckus is a hilarious character.

Somewhere between trying too hard to make irreverent humor and trying to push a message is Boondocks. It's still pretty funny at times, but after a while it loses its charm.

I get Dick Ridin' Obama stuck in my head at least once a week.

This show had me until its fourth and final season. The laughs were there as well as the apt political and social commentary without too much self-righteousness or respectability politics for me. After Aaron McGruder left before the 4th season though, the show took a massive nosedive. It then became a parody of itself - making episodes that were similar to other ones they had already made. Absolutely worth watching for the beautiful moments of discomfort throughout the first 3 seasons though.

Ignoring season 4, which is awful.

When it was good it was really good. But between that it was often overly stretched out, some jokes were suited for a 4 panel comic strip.
