When i saw the color grading i instantly knew i was due for a heavyhanded attempt at "prestige-tv" drama. And dreary, it was. Evenly paced, but very much by-the-numbers. I think it zooms in on too many of the uninteresting and overly familiar things about a story like this, but it's watchable enough, and that's 95% on account of Chris Evans who surprised me as a very decent actor that's definitely a good leading man. I was blown away by the length of his eyelashes, too. Maybe it was mostly that.

It's a bit slow at times, with some of the same points hammered into oblivion, but it's very well made and has some good turns. The last couple of episodes ramp up pretty nicely.

From fine acting to plot twists this keeps you interested until the end and leaves you dry by not answering the core question.

Suspenseful drama, which is a bit slow paced at times. Even though the series could have been 1–2 episodes shorter, the slow pace actually works pretty well for this show, thanks to the beautiful cinematography and great actors. The show is less about crime, and more about guilt, doubt, secrets, isolation, and family ties. At the end, the audience is left feeling like the protagonist: uncertain.

I’m so confused - how does this fit into the whole multiverse thing? Is Jacob supposed to be Wolverine?

A lot of shows focus on a suspect for a couple of episodes, rule him out, then move on to the next and then a third, but Defending Jacob simultaneously showed three suspects and focused equally on them... Which was a nice pace. Overall it was engaging, emotional and suspenseful with twists evenly distributed throughout. The ending, albeit expected, was fitting. At the beginning I wasn't impressed with Evans' acting, but by the end, I was smitten with his performance.

On the surface it looks like the same cliche pseudo-intellectual crime drama that we’re so used to seeing, however this one is different in two prominent ways. One, the storytelling craft is superb, unlike anything you'll see from its predecessors, mostly in that it's not patronizing. Two, the cinematography is incredible. It’s easy to visually succumb to this one. The pacing is good, but likely too slow for most. Overall, a very nice show. Definitely not my favorite genre, but I enjoyed it.

It's well written for the most part. The cinematography is the best part of the series without question. Evans, Martell, Dockery and Schreiber all demonstrate a master class on acting which pulls you info the story. It's intentionally drawn out and ambiguous to prove a point which would have better served a quicker and more concise narrative.
