At times is prone to extreme exaggeration, but is grounded enough to not be inconceivable. Some characterizations were unsatisfying, weird, and inconsistent, but the show still packs an emotional gut punch. While my perspective of this show may be affected by the fact this is my first exposure to Devilman, I still thoroughly enjoyed it, especially after things picked up around the second half of the show. Could it be better? Yes. But Devilman is a story that works, over 40 years into the future.

eh. I really love the animation style but it hits the threshold of extreme violence going from gnarly to trite fairly quickly, which causes the ending to be eyeroll-worthy rather than tragic. I would have liked it a lot when I was 15 though, and teens—especially those struggling with gender/sexual identity—even moreso. but there are also better works which accomplish the same thing. this has titties and some cool gore, though, so watch that if you're OK with a sloppy conclusion.

As a Devilman fan, I'm happy. It could have been better, but it's pretty great. The animations isn't my cup of tea but I have to say that some parts look amazing. The soundtrack is, with the exception of the rap songs, fittingly epic. And the story, well, I love it so I'm extremely biased here, and yes, they changed a few things but the stuff they did adapt is just so good. This said, Devilman is not for everyone: it's mean, dark, cynical and blasphemous. But it's one of the manga classics.

a bit confusing and occasionally nasty and definitely ugly but absolutely brilliant. a story about being a monster in a world of people who are quite monstrous themselves

Pretty interesting show. I think if it had a few more episodes, it could've dove a bit more into the characters and story. However, it was a great watch.

Direct, fast and to the point. The coming-of-age elements are handled in an interesting way, and the ending is spectacular. There are issues with the writing, but other parts compensate well.

Takes a few turns into darker and darker territory, and some of the scenes from the later episodes still stick with me months afterwards. Not sure I enjoyed where it ultimately ends up. Can't help but feel that it evolves into an exercise in edginess more than a coherent story by the end. The music is really banging and it's all presented with a lot of style. A really engaging experience. Just get ready to be punched in the stomach.

Starts as something relatively fun and engaging, with great direction from Masaaki Yuasa, showing off his penchant for some freaky good animation. Unfortunately, his penchant for the same kind of heavily manipulative melodrama that ruined Kaiba soon kicks in, and I begin to disengage. Characters are underdeveloped as things lurch to a scaleless and emotionally empty conclusion. It's a saddening drop in quality, and Devilman: Crybaby ultimately feels forced and rushed.

How do you do kids, are you titillated by these boobies and my mass murder of innocent party-goers?
